GIRLS HUMAN RIGHTS HUB LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO
MAKE FEBRUARY ‘GIRLS’ HUMAN RIGHTS MONTH’

Global Initiative Calls for Urgent Action to End Discrimination and Violence Against Girls

London, UK – The Girls Human Rights Hub (GHRH) is launching a landmark campaign to designate February as Girls’ Human Rights Month, a global movement aimed at tackling gender-based violence, systemic discrimination, and barriers to leadership and justice for girls.

While International Day of the Girl (October 11) raises awareness once a year, one day is not enough to confront the complex and deeply rooted inequalities that millions of girls face daily. From child marriage and lack of education to gender-based violence and legal disenfranchisement, girls’ rights are still widely ignored or neglected in policies, laws, and communities worldwide.

Under the official hashtag #MakeFebruaryGirlsHumanRightsMonth, the campaign will mobilize activists, lawyers, educators, policymakers, and young girls to push for sustained action, demand policy changes, and create legal frameworks that protect girls’ rights year-round.

“We Need More Than One Day”: Why February Must Be Girls’ Human Rights Month

Globally, girls continue to face widespread violence, discrimination, and exclusion:

•       One in three women worldwide experiences gender-based violence, and girls are among the most vulnerable.

•       129 million girls are out of school, limiting their potential and reinforcing cycles of poverty.

•       650 million women alive today were married as children, with devastating effects on their health, education, and future.

•       Millions of girls still lack access to justice, facing systemic barriers when reporting abuse or seeking legal protection.

“Girls do not just need protection on one day—they need it every single day. By making February Girls’ Human Rights Month, we can ensure that action is continuous, voices are amplified, and girls’ leadership is fostered at every level,” said Sultana Tafadar KC, international human rights barrister and Founder of GHRH.

Through this campaign, GHRH will work with legal experts, activists, and institutions to push for concrete commitments from governments, international organizations, and civil society to:

✅ Strengthen laws that protect girls from gender-based violence and discrimination

✅ Increase access to education, legal justice, and leadership opportunities

✅ Promote girls’ participation in decision-making at all levels

The movement is not just about awareness—it is about real, lasting change.

GIRLS HUMAN RIGHTS FESTIVAL: A MONTH OF ACTION, NOT JUST WORDS

As part of the campaign, GHRH will host the Girls Human Rights Festival 2025 from February 17-21 in London, a global convening of activists, legal experts, young leaders, and policymakers dedicated to shaping the future of girls’ rights.
